On the 24th and 29th of October 2018, a civilian died and ten others were injured in the Syrian regular forces’ artillery shelling of the town of Hayan, Aleppo province, for the bombardment targeted an industrial facility and residential neighborhoods, according to testimonies obtained by Syrians for Truth and Justice/STJ.

It is worth mentioning that the shelling is considered a violation of the Sochi deal, conducted by the Turkish president and his Russian counterpart, which provided for the establishment of a demilitarized zone and putting an end to acts of violence. The deal entered into force on October 15, 2018.[1]

On October 29, 2018, activist Aubaida.H, based in the town of Hayan, told STJ:

“The Syrian regular forces, stationed in the Handarat camp and the village of Ratyan, targeted the town of Hayan with about 50 artillery shells, which ended in the town’s southern neighborhood and caused little material damage to the civilians’ houses. A few of the shells landed on an industrial facility, a lumber plant and a formica factory, rendering one of the workers dead, named Anas Ghdair, a 28-year-old man, and caused the injury of eight other workers, three of whom are from the town. Four workers had serious injuries and were transported to the Bab al-Hawa Hospital, on the Syrian-Turkish borders.”

The activist added:

“The shelling endured by the Hayan town on October 29, 2018, was the fifth this month, for the town was targeted by artillery shelling on the part of the Syrian regular forces, positioned in the village of Maarasta al-Khan, on the 24th of the same month. Back then, the shells ended in a civilian’s house, causing the injury of a woman and her child, while no further casualties were recorded during the other three shelling incidences.”

For several times, the Syrian regular forces shelled many regions in the provinces of Aleppo, Hama and Idlib, thus violating the Sochi deal. The attacks led to casualties among civilians, which to cover STJ published a number of reports. [2]
