Ameen\u2019s family was told that Ameen was detained at the Military Prosecution department in al-Hasakah in order to testify on a corruption case filed against individuals in institutions of the Autonomous Administration. On 28 June 2021, the Military Prosecution sent a note to Ameen\u2019s family telling them to come and pick up Ameen\u2019s body, claiming that he died of a stroke. However, Ameen\u2019s family confirmed that Ameen was subjected to torture that led to his death and published photos and videos on social media showing Ameen\u2019s body with signs of torture on his back and other body parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In response, social media pages and private accounts, loyal to local authorities in north-eastern Syria, alleged that the body shown in the circulated photo was of an Iraqi man killed by the so-called Islamic State (also known as Daesh) in 2015. Thus, allies of the Autonomous Administration on social media accused Ameen\u2019s family of framing the Autonomous Administration with the torture of their son, intending to distort the Administration\u2019s image in the eyes of world and the Syrian public.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-14116 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-373x516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-373x516.jpg 373w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-579x800.jpg 579w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-325x450.jpg 325w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-768x1062.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-1111x1536.jpg 1111w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-1170x1618.jpg 1170w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images-585x809.jpg 585w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/images.jpg 1354w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Image 1 &#8211; Images circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp in June 2021 by accounts loyal to the Autonomous Administration claiming that the tortured body shared by Ameen\u2019s family actually belongs to the man shown above, who was an Iraqi killed by the Islamic State in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Syrians for Truth and Justice investigated Ameen Issa al-Ali\u2019s death and the conflicting accounts and photos circulating online and concluded that the man shown in the photos circulated by pages and individuals loyal to the Autonomous Administration was not tortured to death by the Islamic State in 2015, as claimed. The man in the photos is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.albawaba.com\/ar\/%D8%A3%D8%AE%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B1\/%D9%85%D8%B3%D9%84%D8%AD%D9%88%D9%86-%D9%8A%D9%82%D8%AA%D9%84%D9%88%D9%86-%D9%82%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A7-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AA%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B5%D8%AF%D8%B1%D9%8A-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%A8%D8%BA%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%AF-1436040\">Naseer Abu Dere\u2019 al-Mahmadawi<\/a>, who was a commander in the Peace Companies\/Saraya Al Salam of the Sadrist movement and was <a href=\"https:\/\/iraqakhbar.com\/3167722\">assassinated<\/a> by unknown perpetrators on 29 June 2021 (one day after Ameen\u2019s killing was reported) in al-Bayaa\u2019 neighborhood in Baghdad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">STJ also confirmed, using open-source information, that Abu Dere\u2019 al-Mahmadawi, a commander in the Peace Companies\/Saraya Al Salam of the Sadrist movement, was not tortured to death. Al-Mahmadawi was assassinated a day after Ameen\u2019s family took their son\u2019s body and published the photos. In other words, the photos of the tortured body were taken at least one day before the assassination of al-Mahmadawi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14121 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-2.jpg 578w, https:\/\/stj-sy.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-2-573x450.jpg 573w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 452px) 100vw, 452px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Image 2 &#8211; Image taken from an article on the al-Bawaba website proving the falsity of the posts of people and pages loyal to the Autonomous Administration on the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Additionally, Syrians for Truth and Justice verified the photos published by Ameen Issa al-Ali\u2019s family as authentic, despite the Autonomous Administration\u2019s continued refusal to admit to them.
